Pros

paid vacation after 6 months, flexible scheduling, monetary incentives to catch shoplifters and internal theft ($150-$500)

Cons

Employee appreciation is nearly non-existent when it comes to upper management. They don't value key holders or store associates, even if they've been there for years. They make you feel very expendable. With the high turnover rates in retail, perhaps that should be less surprising. Nonetheless, it's still frustrating when you place value in your job, but they place little value in you. The company is more concerned with opening more stores than they are with providing their current stores with the proper shelving, displays, security equipment, materials, etc. that they need. Many of the mirrors, shelving, and displays we had were themselves for sale. For example, all the shelves that held the shoes had price tags on them. Many rounders and clothing displays were taped, rubber banded, or otherwise rigged to keep them together. Security was another big issue. There were no security cameras in our store. There are incentives to catch shoplifters, but it is very difficult to prove that they were stealing or switching tickets when you don't have any security footage and aren't able to hold them in the store. Upper management placed blame on internal theft for our huge losses in inventory, when in reality the loss of inventory was due to poor security: no cameras, not having enough security tags for the large inventory, having a door system that barely worked, and furthermore, having so many clothing racks piled into one store that it was difficult to see where people were and what they were doing unless you followed right behind them–which we were often encouraged to do, but which made innocent shoppers either very uncomfortable or incredibly annoyed/combative.
