Pros

I think the concept of the business is promising.

Cons

My short experience at Language Intelligence was terrible. The company manages to attract good employees. However, there is little to no respect for staff. It was disconcerting how the owner would openly express her disapproval of current staff to me, without having the professionalism to tell them herself. This experience was reminiscent of high school. I later learned, that I was hired to replace a current staff member who, according to the owner, was not hitting the mark. The problem was, that she never fired that employee or bothered to tell them that I was the replacement. Everything became clear when the said employee and I both realized that I now carried their job title. How sad for that person and terribly awkward for me. By the way, not that it matters, but the employee I replaced was very capable, wonderful and efficient. Needless to say they moved on to bigger and better. Also, days were filled with negative gossip from family members (that also worked there) and employees. Another interesting note: my previous employer served as my reference for this job. After speaking with the LI representative over the phone, my previous employer called me to share with me her concern. She felt the job wouldn't be a good fit as the person over the phone asking questions, she felt, was unprofessional and made awkward comments. As it turns out, the person she spoke with was the owner. Nobody deserves to work here under the current employer. Even though I left my position for the above mentioned reasons, 1 week after starting, she felt the need to tell staff that she fired me. I don't understand the reasoning and never wasted my time rectifying as I luckily have an excellent reputation with all my previous employers. Do yourself a favor and work elsewhere. This place is soul sucking. One can only wonder how they get clients. I guess that fake smile goes a long way.

Pros

Language Intelligence is full of extremely capable and smart people. It's easy to get a hold of the right person to talk to on any topic. There's no red tape, and it's really up to you to have a big impact on your team and your clients. People who make a big impact are recognized, regardless of their job title or level of experience. Ultimately, you get out of it what you put in it. The company's leadership truly believes in its mission to make the world more open and connected through language, and takes pride in providing more than adequate compensation and benefits to its employees for the past 25 years and ongoing. The teams are small and have a lot of autonomy, and it's amazing to see how much of a difference a single person can make at this place.

Cons

The downside is that a lot can go on at once and it can take lots of energy and discipline to stay focused on those things that matter most. You need to embrace challenge to get the most out of your experience. If you are looking to clock in at 8 and clock out at 5 this is not the right place for you, since it is a business working globally.
