Pros

This is a small company where an individual's impact is measurable. Lighthouse both develops and manufactures medical devices on contract, so staff get exposure to product management from conceptualization, to commercialization and manufacturing. The entire product lifecycle is covered. This design/manufacture arrangement is unique for such a small operation, and a big experience bonus for any career in medical devices. Most products are surgical optics, so the tech is mostly optics, miniature video electronics and software, and sterilization. The work never really gets stale, either; new projects come in all the time and there are always new challenges. I learn something interesting every day. The team is well curated and since the environment is small, political problems are negligible. It's easy (and required) to cooperate with others and learn from other's specialties. Employees enjoy high autonomy and trust, communication is good, and goals and priorities are communicated clearly, on a daily basis. You can share your thoughts and expect them to be taken seriously. The new management is consciously creating this environment and knows that a benevolent leadership philosophy is a strong motivator.

Cons

The growth is stretching resources, which can be hard to come by. A smaller company means smaller budget. Sharing company resources between projects reduces work efficiency and makes some tasks harder than they need to be. The new development projects will outgrow the facility very soon. Multiple projects in play can mean that some days are compromised by multi-tasking and task switching. There are some residual business process/systems inefficiencies and dysfunctions that need streamlining or replacement. These are common side effects of rapid growth. The "Cons" are really just opportunities for ambitious engineers and managers; the solutions are usually clear, the only things standing in the way are time and money.
