Pros

Good benefits if you work enough hours some disconnect between higher up policy makers and each of the 88 library locations, very friendly staff at my location.

Cons

Part timers usually max at 20 hours a week and there is a union which you must be a part of and they negotiate benefits for ALL county departments so you may feel like everyone else is getting stuff and your department doesn't. Also there aren't promotions, you need to re-apply and re-interview and personally I feel they have a bias(you take a "test" which is an interview then get ranked in bands, they then call the bands until they find the "right" person which is usually someone they already knew and just call the people above them out of procedure. )

Pros

Great place to learn as a nurse and serve the community. Generally good camaraderie amongst staff. Good job stability and good benefits despite lower hourly pay than other top hospitals in the area.

Cons

Things are tightening up with ongoing reports of the "budget crisis." The working environment greatly varies by manager. You don't pay into social security, so many staff who work many years at the county feel "handcuffed" here because of the retirement benefits.
