Pros
Ok they have good benefits- if you ever get a chance to use them.
Cons
Mangers are their own silos. Chief's are out to make a name for themselves. Half the people are just there to bank a certain number of years for medical benefits. The eligibility workers and people from district offices can be downright hostile and rude-- just wait until they are promoted the entitlement attitude and poor work ethic are everywhere. Want your car keyed? You've come to the right place! The managers do not discipline employees at all- they transfer people around, you never know as a manager if another of your own kind is passing along the trash to you. Most of the Department is a mess since they have only ever worked for DPSS. DPSS has a culture- a bad one! Their motto is "enriching lives through caring and effective service" except they don't even do that to their own workers. If the managers cared about DPSS and both themselves and the organization, they'd discipline the bad employees. They'd also allow for a good work-life balance and not run people into the ground with forced overtime, products that should not rollout but instead are steamrolled out so someone's name looks good on paper, etc (cough cough LRS cough cough). Oh and of course pulling people into "volunteer" projects....the list goes on and on. There is no work life balance at most offices. Their answer to everything is to work you to death until you never see your children grow up. Social life? Some managers don't believe people are humans, instead you are a robot. This is Ferenheit 451 with a bit of Animal Farm mixed in, don't let anyone fool you.
