Pros

Well known brands which have been successfully built by former owners GSK. Salaries are fairly good. Office is easy to get too.

Cons

What started out as a great company with lots of promise in 2014 has quickly gone down hill. Management ‘talk the talk’ about people focus but the reality is very different. People are treated appallingly and there is no care for wellbeing. Leadership skills are lacking and a lot of inadequately experienced individuals occupy senior roles. The only focus is on chasing the numbers, which is a big challenge since the introduction of the UK soft drink sugar tax. A very internally focussed business that wastes huge amounts of time justifying performance to internal stakeholders. LRS has lost all sight of it’s people, & it’s customers. Employees are given very little autonomy. By far the worst culture I have ever worked in, which is a common opinion. The turnover of staff is phenomenally high, and the main task on everyone’s to do list is to look externally for a new job. The vast majority of talented staff that came across from GSK have now left the business, and the talent bar has been considerably lowered with new appointments.

Pros

Pay is OK, v good bonus. People are wonderful, there is a kind and helpful culture which makes Suntory a great place to work. You don’t feel as if your job is under threat even in tough times. People don’t take themselves very seriously. Good exposure to exec committee. Offer small perks like a free lunch and free drinks for all any time. Good parental offering eg. Mat / pat leave. Despite products in plastic bottles sustainability is a focus.

Cons

Lots of problems too. Terrible location, bad canteen and on a grey business park. IT has been massively underinvested in. It feels like 20 years behind other companies, meeting rooms and connections do not work to the point it’s embarrassing. Not using technology well in the business. Silo working. Need to think further ahead not focus on short term goals. Limited progression unless you’re a top performer in Sales or marketing, not for other functions unless you’re willing to move internationally and even then it’s very rare so you can be stuck doing the same thing. Recent culture of hiring externally not internally across positions which is demotivating to staff. Brands not doing well and many problems not tackled effectively. Some good leaders and some bad ones too.
