Pros

Central Manchester office in a convenient location. Entry-level option for science graduates wanting exposure to academic publishing. Exposure to working with international colleagues and fast-paced environment.

Cons

The role is primarily administrative, not truly editorial or scientific. Heavy focus on publishing volume and quotas, rather than quality of scientific content. Questionable scientific integrity of some manuscripts. Work largely involved cold-contacting academics to secure peer reviews, which many found intrusive. Progress is monitored heavily by overseas management, with little flexibility. High pressure and little job security; targets must be met exactly.

Pros

My experience with MDPI has been great. Their staff is professional and organized, and there's no shadiness in regards to pay. They provide training and English Editing guides, and there is room for advancement in the company.

Cons

Training was brief; however, sources and trainer are available beyond the training period.
