Pros

We still do good, solid technical work for now.

Cons

For all of the years I've worked at MITRE, the mantra was, "No politics." We work in the public trust, and politics has no place whatsoever in how we operate, whether in public or behind the scenes. That changed a few months ago, and now we are all about social justice. Three years ago we had a new CEO, and the first shake-ups lead to the initial brain drain at the officer level. A revolving door at the C-level was apparent with the emails that "New Person A" is the new Cxx, and less than a year later "New Person A" is leaving MITRE. Last year saw two members of the Board of Trustees leave, one of whom was the former CEO. A recent reorganization led to the "release" of many high level executives in the company. An even more recent talk from the board shows they're fully behind our "new" company. Politics has no place at MITRE. I guess I'm wrong. It apparently has both place and purpose at MITRE.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and for your contributions at MITRE. It is great to see you’ve recognized the important technical work we are doing on some of our nation’s biggest challenges. MITRE continues to be a non-partisan organization that is deeply committed to our mission of solving problems for a safer world. Part of fulfilling our mission is to address the most pressing challenges our customers and our nation faces. In our current environment, that includes topics that may be perceived as political in nature - like social justice, election security, and curbing the COVID pandemic. However, our approach to solving these issues continues to be politically agnostic as we apply objective, technology and data-driven approaches to solve the most relevant problems our nation is challenged with. Our recent organizational changes were given careful consideration by our leadership and our Board of Trustees. Grounded in our corporate strategy, these changes ensure a more seamless organization that enables us to have greater agility, act boldly, align our leadership and resources, and prepare for a future that continues to support our people, our mission, and our organization. Decisions of this magnitude are never taken lightly; they are deliberate, thought-through, and forward-thinking. They ensure that MITRE remains relevant into the future as we continue to operate in the public interest, deliver innovative solutions to our sponsors and partners, and prepare for the challenges ahead.

Pros

Great diversity, quality of life and staff. Been with MITRE over 20 years.

Cons

Too many VP,s that are not held accountable. Company recently RIF'd 24 staff from FAA FFRDC, due to dropping gov't funding...yet company has significant number of VPs all sucking off of overhead. No attempt to manage money within the "leadership" ranks. Last year company went through a major business transformation...that failed...yet, VPs held staff accountable for reporting on a subpar system that lasted over 12 months. Could not even get business data to report to gov't for over 2 months, yet, person who was in charge of the business transformation is still at MITRE. If this happened to any other MITRE employee, they would've been gone. Oddly enough the person in charge of the business transformation is the CEOs brother. Amazing how that happens. He'll probably get a bonus because of his substandard performance. MITRE recently invested in opening up an office in Australia. All on company overhead. significant large numbers of VPs travelling out to "visit"...yet company has the audacity to reduce benefits as part of cost cutting measures. Company has now taken on a "for profit" mentality. It's all about delivery... so VPS and GMs can spend, spend, spend. Board of Directors should take a good look at what is happening and make some swift changes from the CEO on down. BOD should also implement an independent IG like entity to investigate what is seeming like waste, fraud and abuse by CEO, GMs and VPs. Time for the Fat Cats to get purged!!!
