Pros

Good benefits such as health care and pension

Cons

Very racist state agency. If you are someone of color don't work there. There seem to be a certain tone towards individuals of color especially in the engineering department. Harassment within the construction and the engineering department very common towards folks of colored. They talked down to folks of colored to basically let them know that this type is too complicated which kind of remind me of how slave owners were during slavery time. Overall, the MWRA is a very toxic place and immigrants of colored get it worse in the Engineering department.

Pros

- Everyone is incredibly nice and bubbly, never had a bad experience - Impactful work that does make a difference - Opportunity for various site-visits on Fridays, and to hang with other interns - Learned a lot about wastewater and government work - Hours were 7am-3pm, which was really nice - Emphasis on diversity and inclusion, felt welcomed here

Cons

- Weird work-from-home policy (some interns got none, others got anywhere from 0.5 to 3 days WFH per week, starting after 30 days of employment) - Very slow, many days I would have literally nothing to do - $21 is low pay for the Boston area, in my opinion - Overly structured career progression if you land a full-time role, you basically have to wait till someone dies or retires to advance. Consistent with government work
