Pros
-Excellent pay -Outstanding cancellation policy -Little prep needed for lessons -Feedback is quite quick and easy
Cons
-Micromanaging - Your classes are constantly being reviewed by other teachers who are given a "supervisor" title. If there is the slightest bit of noise coming from a student (maybe at 2 minutes and 5 seconds into class little Timmy's brother makes a sound) you are in trouble for not meeting their "muting" bottom line. You MUST smile The. Whole. Time. If you don't smile while switching slides while also saying a "transitional sentence", you will get in trouble. -Toxic FB "family" community- Their FB page is heavily monitored. Unless it's "Yay! I love Magic Ears! Magic Ears is SOOOO amazing!", it will not be approved. Sharing legitimate concerns is how we grow together. They do not allow space for that. Don't expect to be authentically heard in their group. -Poor curriculum- The students just repeat the teacher. There's no authentic dialogue or reading and grammar learning. You MUST read everything first and have the students repeat. You CANNOT let the students try reading first or you will get in trouble. Just simply repeating is literally NOT how a person learns to read. -No transparency- I've seen people post multiple comments asking who ME's CEO and founders are. No one ever answers. One teacher wrote that the founder is some woman who is a parent. What does that even mean? How is she qualified? More transparency, please! Still waiting to hear about the company's education credentials. -Low and inconsistent booking rates- Bookings are terrible. -Favoritism- Teachers with popular YouTube channels that promote ME are given better bookings rates and higher rankings. -Require two "relevant" props per lesson- Whiteboards, puppets and microphones don't count. You MUST have two that are relevant to the vocabulary words to reinforce them. For instance, if you're teaching caterpillar, you MUST have a caterpillar of some sort. They also prefer you use toys and realia rather than flashcards. In other words, if you travel or otherwise don't own a plethora of random toys, you might have a problem.
