Pros

I loved my coworkers and my manager, it was a lot of fun playing games with all the customers and my coworkers. Of course, I learned a lot about being a salesperson and about interacting with people.

Cons

I was very disheartened at how poorly employees are treated by corporate. My manager expressed the same feelings and felt unfulfilled. They asked for very much, which often led to high stress situations trying to sell as much as possible at the end of the month, and yet even with all the demands, all the visits from management, the BrainCoaches are never rewarded, and not even offered higher positions if they earn them. They told me when I started that sales weren't to be as pushy as other retail stores, yet we were essentially demanded to perform the same tired retail tactics when the store did not meet their unrealistic goals. For a company that says they are taking a new approach, they are using tactics that people already know and recognize. Management also does not take into account the area you are selling to. We often got products that sold well in other places, but did not sell well in our store. We had an enormous backstock of those items that never went away.

Pros

I worked as a Brain Coach at the store inside of FAO Schwarz (although I heard this location may be moving to somewhere else in Manhattan). They care about their employees and their customers. The company is growing VERY rapidly, so there will definitely be room for promotions. In the two months I worked at Marbles, four people out of 16 were promoted to Manager, Assistant Manager, Regional Manager, and Head Brain Coach. If you like quick strategy games, this is the store for you. They will hold you to high standards, so not only will you need to know how to play every game inside and out, but you will need to actively approach customers, befriend them, and try to sell them games. However, you will get weeks to learn the games and you get paid to play them! Everyone I worked with was high energy and outgoing. We even had a pizza party and a cookie party during the Christmas rush to celebrate our success! Oh and Lindsay (the CEO and Co-Founder) stopped by our location to meet the employees and do some selling of her own!!

Cons

While this job will teach you how to better interact with customers and become a better salesman, it will require a lot of motivation and energy (although since I worked during the Christmas rush at the busiest location, I may be biased). Honestly, there are not a lot of negatives. The pay is OK and the hours are flexible (8 hour shifts).
