Pros

Great experience for entry level HR Management. Training is not great, but sadly you are the most well trained of any management position. Growing Company! Brand grew from one to 36 in just over five years. Position holds as much responsibility as store director in a lot ways. Unfortunately pay and org charts keep you as entry level manager. Has a lot of potential to develop into a much better and more significant role.

Cons

Once you are competent in the role (which for many is never), you realize that you are paid far less than other managers who are essentially not managers. They were simply the best at stocking a shelf or working on a counter. No leadership or accountability with any of the other manager roles. Pay is between 40-50k, depending on your offer. Far undervalued for responsibilty. You are the only manager in the company who sends reports weekly to all senior level managers and executives...but again, you are considered entry level. Long hours. No work/life balance. Management offers state 50-55 hours per week. Expect to work 60+ consistently. No room for advancement within your skill set. Want more money? Learn to stock a shelf. Never mind that you worked on much more complex tasks as a PSM. Store director is the only thing you can ask to be developed into that they will actually do. You may be asked to strategize and recruit in unethical (and illegal, "if you understand what I'm saying") kinds of ways. No good feedback for you in this role. Your direct supervisor, your Store Director, does not know enough about your role to give you actionable feedback to grow and improve.

Pros

Health insurance for full time employees is nice. My schedule is pretty regular so I enjoy that.

Cons

At least at my store, management is focused more on profits than people. We don’t have enough equipment, there are severe health code violations that get brushed under the rug, and many members of store leadership don’t care enough to listen to us and resolve issues
