Pros
The employees who have been on staff for awhile are, for the most part, hard workers. Slacking by librarians is overlooked, along with occasional slacking by lower-paid employees. It is a government workplace, though.
Cons
Management at Admin level is abysmal, with choice openings repeatedly handed to selected favorites. Admin is continually expanding its own ranks, while regular branch employees go without raises for years & years. Positions are held open for specific individuals, job descriptions are rewritten (& given generous salary increases) for specific employees, while long-time staffers looking to advance are passed over. Job descriptions that were rewritten are then rewritten again when the favorited staffer moves up. If you earned your MLS in mid-life, don't even try to get a job here. IF you are lucky enough to land a librarian position, do so with the knowledge that you have absolutely NO opportunity for advancement. Supervisory & management positions ALL go to younger staffers -- regardless of ability, knowledge, or job performance.
