I really liked working there for a long while, but later on, I started to notice some major red flags. Once I started seeing the issues, it became clear they were extensive and probably wouldn't be resolved. A lot of past scenarios where other employees suddenly left with no explanation (which seemed to happen quite frequently) started making a lot more sense.
I enjoyed working with most people at Mechanism, but there were a few that were honestly the most difficult people I've ever met. In fact, even months after no longer working at Mechanism Ventures, I still periodically think to myself "I'm so glad I never have to work with ___ and ___ ever again."
You'll notice some of the job listings for Mechanism Ventures say "demands a level of dedication beyond the standard 9 to 5," which from personal experience can actually be interpreted as "work is your life." There is an expectation that you work all the time, including on weekends when you’re expected to respond to Slack messages and the likes. I prefer to work to live, not the other way around, so this became quite exhausting for me. Expectations seemed unrealistic and unreasonable to me, but I just might be a lightweight that couldn't handle being on the clock sun up to sun down.
Overall, I'm grateful for the experience and all that I learned. I now know what red flags to look for and things to avoid in companies moving forward, thanks to my time at Mechanism Ventures. I don't regret my time there, as it has led me to lots of personal growth. And I am so extremely glad I don't work there any longer.
