Pros
The extra star in this review is for the day-to-day team. I worked with some fantastic people, who truly cared about doing a good job and seeing their peers succeed. Creative is top-notch and the department has managed to mostly distance itself from the problems of other groups. Clients see this in the work and that is what is currently driving new business.
Cons
The hostile work environment I endured at Mekanism is what keeps therapists in business. My boss was a textbook narcissist, described as such by coworkers, clients, and former direct reports who were in this role before me. I was warned and took the job anyway. With some distance, I can clearly see how truly damaging this manipulative and gaslighting behavior was. Rates of attrition are extremely high, even for an agency during recently-challenging times of employment. Raises and promotions are scarce due to pressures from a recent acquisition. Employee satisfaction is low due to long hours (inadequate staffing) and a sense of competition within teams (perpetuated and encouraged by leadership). It’s not a great place to work right now, but new management may improve that. Overall company issues include a grossly-high turnover rates (+40% attrition/quitting), a recent merger/acquisition, low employee satisfaction and poor work/life balance.
