Pros
Flexible scheduling and decent pay for part time work. 2.50 extra per hour for weekend work. Managers get paid for every hour they are at work, no salary. Profit sharing and bonus merchandise checks for Christmas time. Managers get bonuses if their departments meet certain standards. Mostly friendly, approachable management. You can move up within the company relatively easily, if you are willing to relocate.
Cons
I worked at Menards for 3 years as a cashier and also did the management internship. When I was doing the internship in the plumbing department my eyes were finally opened up to how the store actually worked. The managers have terrrible hours and don't make very much. The average that I heard was around 12-13 dollars an hour. Relocation is a must if you want to move up within the company. I have a friend who is still with the company as a front end manager and she has moved just about every year since she got into management. "Crank" shifts are horrible. Working from Friday at noon to 10 pm close. Then working 7 am to 8 pm Saturday, and Sunday 8 am to 7 pm. Work life balance is not very possible when you are in management.
