Pros

Level I trauma center, will gain so much good experience . Good pay.

Cons

Very busy, understaffed, not supported by management, constant violence (physical and mental) toward nurses (they have been choked, burned, hit, spit on, knives pulled on them, computers thrown at them, facial fractures from being punched, etc). Management not making it safer. Coordinators and managers have deep rooted friendships with certain employees that allow them to get away with very inappropriate behavior and bullying. Lateral violence is a huge issue here and nothing is done about it because of friendships.

We are very sorry to hear that your employment experience does not match that of the majority of our staff. Methodist has a well-established reputation for being a great place to work. We've been designated a Best Place to Work by the "Dallas Business Journal" for 15 years straight and have been ranked among the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare by "Becker's Hospital Review" for nine years. One of the reasons we have been so awarded is that we are a Magnet®-recognized hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which indicates that we are a nurse-friendly workplace with a high regard for nurses. We would be interested in hearing your concerns and helping to resolve them. If you would like to confidentially discuss your situation with us, please send us an email at hrcareer@mhd.com

Pros

Coming from a smaller size hospital but big company like Methodist and known high paying hospital in DFW, I needed more shifts. Since MDMC is bigger than my other PRN, I have higher chance of getting shifts because there are more monitoring stations, more staff taking PTOs, higher chance of staff calling out sick and therefore opening the shift, etc.

Cons

More workload and higher census! Almost 50 patients on heart monitor per station.

We're glad to hear that the flexibility and availability of shifts have been a benefit for you. As one of the region's largest health systems, Methodist offers opportunities that can help PRN team members find the schedule that works best for them. We also recognize that higher patient volumes and workload expectations can come with working in a busy, high-acuity environment. Supporting our team members remains a priority, and we continually evaluate our compensation programs and workplace resources to remain competitive and help our employees succeed. Thank you for the important role you play in caring for our patients and for being a valued member of the Methodist family.
