Pros

The online desk does not speak at all to the newspaper desk and are on our own separate newsroom, so I can't speak for that side of the business but the people on the online team are lovely, and the editor sits with the staff in the newsroom - no big glass offices here! I learnt a lot about social scheduling that I didn't before, and they clearly want to invest in that area, with four people on shift in a day. I was only a freelancer but was invited to take part in social's and strategic meetings. Also some opportunity to write if you wanted to pitch stuff, and there was the chance to go on foreign press trips. Gym on site, doctors on site etc. Freelancers also get holiday pay.

Cons

Pay disparity across the newsroom, with some reporters on more than editors. Those on the news desk are expected to write upwards of seven stories a day, which inevitably means churning through stuff. Pay isn't great for freelancers (£100 a day and no negotiation), also working from home is forbidden. Staff will often have to do unsociable shifts, some starting at 7am one week and the week after finishing at midnight and quite a big turnaround. Wasn't initially told I got holiday pay, so would be good to make people aware of things more.

Pros

They're fine, the people are nicer than the salary.

Cons

Corporate management at large don't know what they're doing (or do know, but don't care) so you spend a bunch of time trying to do things that should be simple.
