I have conveniently forgotten everything good about the company just because they chose to throw away a loyal employee for almost getting murdered.

Cons

I originally came from a largely retail background, as well as data entry call center work. I have multiple disabilities that I was completely upfront about in the job interview when I interviewed with the company back in April of 2024. I had hit my 1 year anniversary back in April of this year. I received a commemorative plaque of appreciation which was personally handed to me by one of the higher ups. I followed all the rules. Any time I broke the rules it was because the company had failed to properly inform me of all the protocols or had failed to properly train me. Often I would be informed months after the fact that I had been doing the job incorrectly. This was because the training was handled by whoever I was relieving at the end of their shift. The guard assigned to train me was typically someone who had no desire to do their job and properly train the new hire as they were instructed to do by the higher ups. Edwin Diaz, formerly Edwin Velasquez, was the appointed trainer. It was Sergeant Edwin Diaz’s job duty, which he was paid to do, to train new hires on job sites that they had never worked before. Sergeant Edwin Diaz was openly reluctant and resentful of having to do his assigned duties and train new hires as was his job which he knowingly signed up for. The trainer, Sergeant Edwin Diaz, would often times schedule a training with me and not attend, or he would instead have one of the other unarmed officers do his job for him. Metro Protection Services never had direct deposit set up for some reason. I have never before worked at a company that couldn’t have anything as basic as setting up direct deposit for their employees. There was a time I recall when I used my mobile Bank Of America app to deposit the check, and when I went to make an online purchase, my card was declined—because for some reason the checks which I had previously had no trouble depositing would not deposit. When I contacted Captain Eric Leach, he only shrugged and told me to cash the check, which was another tedious step just to get paid when they already made it obnoxious enough not even having direct deposit. Uniform shirts, jackets, and hats are paid for by the company. But, you are expected to buy your own cargo pants, belts, any weapons, and all black shoes out of your own pocket. They did have a training class to get me certified as a security guard, and I did attend one class on pepper spray certification, but they promised other self defense classes that never happened. Policies would change constantly. Updates on new policies were often delivered by word of mouth, where details could be misinterpreted or forgotten or ignored. I had to be out of work for about a week because I was hospitalized after surviving an attempt on my life by a man I had befriended. One of the sites, Columbia Tech Center, has a company vehicle that includes a dashcam with audio. I am aware I was being recorded whenever drove any of the company vehicles. I regularly checked the company emails for any new policies that needed to be followed at the sites. I always read the listed post orders, which included all policies that needed to be followed at all of the sites. I recall a rule against smoking inside the company vehicles. I recall a rule against eating inside company vehicles. I recalled many of the policies regarding guards who operate company vehicles. The policy, to the best of my memory, did not state anything against bringing personal items inside the company vehicles. There are multiple recordings of me bringing my personal backpack, personal lunchbox, personal water bottles, as well as a fidget toy of some kind. I always had a fidget toy or toy whenever I went to work, to help me concentrate. If what the company told me is true, there are multiple recordings of me bringing fidget toys inside company vehicles. I also know that managers, higher ups, clients, Captain Eric Leach, and the owner of the company had previously spotted me playing with fidget toys while I made my rounds, as well as when they needed to speak with me. Whenever I came into the office, I would have some kind of fidget toy on me. Other coworkers had observed me playing with fidget toys. Other coworkers have even temporarily borrowed and played with the fidget toys I provided myself. Managers, coworkers, Captain Eric Leach, and Derek the owner of the company had all spotted me with toys inside my own personal vehicle. I only ever received positive feedback on my toys, whenever any of my coworkers noticed them and decided to comment on them. I was never informed in either writing or verbal directions that it was against company policy to bring toys inside the company vehicles. I never recalled any rules stating it was against the company policy to bring personal items inside the company vehicle. The toys I brought inside the vehicle were intended to help me relax and concentrate at work. I was never criticized for placing toys inside the company vehicle. Managers, coworkers, and clients all observed me putting personal items inside the company vehicles on a regular basis. There are multiple recordings from the company vehicles dashcam of me placing these personal items inside the company vehicle. I was never given a verbal warning that I was not allowed to do that. No one ever told me not to. It was not stated in any of the rules to the best of my memory that I was not allowed to place personal items inside the company vehicles. The only time it was mentioned, I was simply asked what I had left in the company vehicle. I was asked to remove those items from the company vehicle. It was the end of my shift, and I had already removed my personal backpack, personal lunchbox, and personal water bottle from the company vehicle. There were only a few more personal items left. I would not have planned to leave any personal items inside the company vehicle. When the manager told me to remove the items from my company vehicle, I did so promptly. Any time I was informed of a new policy, I followed it. Because that is what I was paid to do. Any time I was informed of a new change, I followed the new rule. Any time I was informed of a policy months after the fact that I was supposed to be following but upper management failed to inform me and the people in charge of writing the post orders so guards would know what to do, I would just say “okay” and the next day I would begin to follow whatever rule they told me to follow. Management claims it is firing me for putting personal items inside the company vehicle. Even though by the time management had noticed, I had already been doing that for months, I was recorded doing it, my coworkers had observed me doing it, and management had observed me doing it. Management gave no verbal warning. Management never informed me that was against the company policy. No clients made negative comments. No managers made negative comments. No one who saw the footage of me driving gave me negative feedback. I was given no warning before they chose to fire me. I showed up to my shifts reliably and on time. I called when I knew I would be late. I gave proper notice for vacations and sick time. I kept them in the loop when I was in the hospital. Metro Protection promised me my job wasn’t in danger. Then I was fired for apparently breaking a rule I was never informed of in writing or verbally. I was fired the day I returned to work after being in the hospital for surviving a murder attempt. They claim it is because I broke a company policy that I was never informed of. Don’t work here if you are autistic, have ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, are hospitalized, have PTSD, or have any mental or physical disabilities of any kind. Only work here if you are ableist or haven’t yet cured yourself of your internalized ableism.
