Pros
After being at Mighty for several years now, I can confidently saw we're hitting our stride in more ways than one:
- The whole team is super talented, yet humble when it counts
- Product and engineering culture is very thoughtful both about what we build and how we work together
- We all really, truly cares about building something meaningful, which self-selects for great new hires
- For the most part, I think everyone feel pretty autonomous, and it breeds a lot of creativity
- As a dev, I really appreciate how trusting our product decision makers are when we emphasize an import piece of technical work. We've grown out of sweeping things under the rug
- Importantly, work life balance actually exists here
- The network of wildly smart, fun, ambitious current and former Mighty employees is impressive to say the least
Cons
There are your standard startup growing pains:
- As much as I value the autonomy, we're growing to a point where we likely need to think harder about people management
- We're more distributed that I ever imagined we'd be, and remote async communication has been rough at times
- I'm all for going slow to go fast, but at times we tend to go too far in the deliberate direction to the point where we have a web of people blocking each others work
