Toxic Leadership Overshadows an Otherwise Worthy Mission - IT Analyst Mission College Employee Review

Pros

Many frontline colleagues are caring, mission-driven, and committed to student success. Union protections and decent benefits (CalPERS retirement, healthcare, vacation). Opportunities to make a tangible difference in public education. Some flexibility depending on your department and direct supervisor.

Cons

Senior Administration, led by the College President and Chancellor, is corrupt and openly engages in favoritism and exclusion. Equity in name only, not in practice. Shared governance is performative at best—critical decisions are made behind closed doors without transparency or input from affected stakeholders. Retaliation is a real risk, especially for employees requesting accommodations or questioning leadership practices. HR is ineffective and often complicit in protecting toxic management rather than supporting staff. Workplace culture suffers from widespread fear, burnout, and disillusionment. Innovation is stifled, and those who challenge the status quo are marginalized or pushed out.
