Pros
Cuddling with animals, a few good coworkers, helping animals find their forever homes
Cons
-Racism from staff members -No advocacy when rude people came to adopt animals -Coworkers lying about others slacking off on the job -Very low pay and wages under $1.00 every year -EXTREMELY toxic work environment -Inadequate training -Coworkers talking behind each other’s backs -Supervisors saying I was not good at my job behind my back -Not hiring enough employees -Not making the right decisions about the animals -Having playgroups with dogs who were supposed to be on a 10 DAY RABIES HOLD -Lack of accountability -No respect for each other -Euthanizing animals for space -Euthanizing animals that have complex behavioral issues -Not being able to say no to adopters who clearly do not have the animal’s best interest at heart -Not being able to say no to adopters who are rude to staff members -Not having a safety plan in place when dealing with rude and possibly dangerous adopters (adoption counselors are alone with potential adopters for most of the time, they are unable to discreetly ask for help if a situation happens) -Other shelters in the area not in-taking as many animals so if a cruelty/hoarding case happens in the capital district, 95% of the time all the animals will come to Mohawk Hudson ON TOP OF their current population which is close to or at capacity most of the time. -You will find out how cruel people can be, not just the animal abusers Stay away from this shelter if you value your physical health, mental/emotional health, peace, time, worth, financial stability, trust in others and sanity.
