Is this your company?

Well-intentioned, but Corporate direction is helter-skelter at best - Anonymous employee NEC Electronics Employee Review

Pros

Diverse workforce; benefits/salary are better than average; decent internal opportunities to meet co-workers; flexible for those whose responsibilities are not clock-driven

Cons

Japanese-owned and ALL decisions are made by/through Japan, focus is on maximizing profit (or minimizing losses) for Corporate; little opportunity to advance in some areas, lifers who have maxed out their potential tend to hang on, and the company is hesitant to remove them

Pros

The dept I work for is very fair and supportive. You get the tools to get your job done and there is motivation to innovate and creative. There is recognition from superiors and others outside the team.

Cons

Work environment is in need of refreshing. We spend a third of our days here, the office space could be modernized.

Pros

There were many talented, dedicated people at the company. The physical atmosphere was nice and everyone was well equipped with the tools to perform their jobs. The corporate culture was poised and non-volatile.

Cons

NEC does a reorg nearly every year. This makes the work environment very unstable as their is very little permanancy. Often the re-org decisions are made in Japan which means your personal contributions, etc. may never even be considered in the decisions. One of the biggest challenges in working at NEC Electronics, America, is that the big decisions all come from Japan and they are not very savvy on how to be successful doing business with Western companies.
