Pros
I work on the product/engineering team and for once I feel like the leadership of the company care about my opinions and ideas. If you are creative and thoughtful about a product feature there is a good chance you will get to build it. The founders are generous with stock and want the company to feel like a family, which can be hard as it is growing and hiring fast. Dylan, the Founder/CEO is really smart in a lot of areas besides business plus he was an engineer and designer before so he is good in engineering meetings and product planning because he has a big vision for the company, however it can be hard to work in product if you're that good or if you don't think about the product as deeply as the rest of us. The CEO also likes to talk with the Engineering team about really big ideas and the future of the world which is fun because sometimes it's not just about how they relate to the company. We all liked talking about the impact of virtual reality and AI for a couple of hours at dinner last week. The leadership team mostly lives in California so sometimes the team in Toronto doesn't get to connect with them as much as we need to. But I like that even though they are so far away they are very aware of all of the team member's contributions, even if we don't talk to them a lot and I have been given 4 big raises in 2 years without ever having to ask. Dylan is very focused on keeping the good team members happy and making sure they are taken care of and appreciated for their hard work. Offices in both Toronto and SF are nice and Anastasia and Sneha work to make sure everyone has the best experience in the office. Food, work stations, commute times. The CEO makes the Culture/HR team work like they are Product Designers and give the staff a great experience. They do a lot of surveys to find out if people are happy, where people want to sit, what chairs and desks are best. They help us all be more productive. We have the BEST healthcare plan and the company pays the full cost of everything. I have been given 3 bonuses in 18 months due to us hitting goals. We now have a new bonus structure based on the whole team delivering their goals each quarter which is to help us work as a team.
Cons
I like the team, but I think we are learning how to deal with multiple offices. This has led to some turn over of staff who join and realize they can't work with remote teams. Engineers is better for that, but sales and support can struggle with communicating between San Francisco and Toronto Office, however it's getting better. The leadership team can be very intense when it comes to everyone thinking for themselves and solving problems. You have to be really good to work at Naborly, or you have to want to be really goo and have the ability to learn on the job. If you can learn fast, and are a hard worker, and can keep up with smart people you will be really happy. If you need a lot of instruction or if you need to be micro managed you will fail at Naborly.
