Pros

Nanoco employs mostly bright graduates and smart PhDs in junior and mid-level roles, so you'll be surrounded by capable scientists. The application process is quick and easy, as they often have vacancies that need to be filled (for reasons explained in the 'cons' section). The management are so annoying that you won't feel guilty about applying to better jobs at other companies while you're working there.

Cons

The senior staff have astonishingly poor management skills. Nanoco has a very high staff turnover rate and does not retain many of its bright graduates or smart PhDs for long (over 50% of staff left, by choice, during the first year I worked there).

Pros

Quantum dots look pretty under a certain light. Nanoco has connections to University of Manchester as it was a spin-out from the uni. So if you are a University of Manchester graduate it will be easy for you to get a job there (only a pro for UoM graduates).

Cons

Unusually high proportion of employees leave each year. Don't apply to Nanoco if you're a young man - Zero promotion opportunities for young male employees. No men under the age of 30 were given a promotion during my time at Nanoco. Don't apply to Nanoco if you're a woman - Very few women at senior management or director level. Senior men seem to enjoy promoting young women to become their direct reports, and they get no promotion opportunities after that. Be careful.
