One of the worst companies I've ever worked for! - Optician Nationwide Vision Center Employee Review

Pros

They had a really good training program. When I started training as the OD Tech, I learned MUCH more than I really needed to know. But it was very useful knowledge.

Cons

I've been an optian for almost 20 yrs. I helped out in every aspect of the office. I started out at a decent pay grade. But as years went on, I would request a raise and was told they were in a "pay freeze" or something like that. Eventually, I'm making minimum wage. Requesting a raise, I get the same response, even though I'm getting excellent marks in my annual reviews. A month later, another optician is hired with only a few years of experience and none of the certifications I have, yet he is hired at $4.00/hr more than I'm making! Soon after this, minimum wage increases again, and my pay rate is increased to the new minimum wage. Awesome! The first raise I've had in over 5 years!

Pros

Not many, you can make decent money doing sales.

Cons

The whole company is very unorganized, very unprofessional, HR is a joke, constant issues with management. They don’t really take any complaints from patients or employees serious. Being that it’s cross trained, that’s how they get people to do. Basically the manager’s job so the manager doesn’t have to do anything. There isn’t as many accommodations and employee amenities as they used to be when I first started. The company owes money somewhere and it shows because of all the cuts.
