Pros

Let me start by saying that this is an acutely specialized form of direct marketing that uses very effective sales principles and strategies to win new clients and maintain existing ones. Working at this firm at times was seriously tough. I mean TOUGH with a Capital 'UFF.' Let me add that in NO way was this a negative or counterproductive force. It simply screened the talent through a natural process of selection, elimination, and grounding. Technically speaking, I'm negating the "Cons" section below by spelling out that the recruiting/screening, interview process, and corporate training was geared in such a way that it prepared the right candidates for success. From Day One, that 'training for success' out in the field coupled with the team-building strategies was never meant to be easy (ask ANY Olympian or successful business owner how many times they've encountered tough situations and they'll reply by telling you they employed winning tactics -- call it ammunition -- to not only get over hurdles, but blow them out of the water). That is what working at Neilson Enterprises was like. When I look back at the long hours, the intense training, the myriad 'experiences' in the field dealing with clients and managing team members, accounts, and obstacles, I'm grateful for the way my President -- not to forget the other talented owners who competed alongside her -- conducted the orchestra.

Cons

This is not for everyone. You must understand that rejection and failure is also very much part of the ride here. And fanatical focus is paramount. The owners stressed this from the onset. They also stressed that the potentially huge rewards were not for everyone, just like anything in life that is worth a fight. (Not everyone is meant to be an Olympian or a successful business owner -- neither a good nor bad statement, merely simply a fact). Of course from time to time there were problems and complications when managing accounts for a large Fortune 500 company; being compensated accurately for accounts you won, and so on. To my mind, I saw it no differently to any business out there that deals with sales and marketing where one is compensated for closing a deal. I got that. Others perhaps didn't. Many things were unorthodox or unconventional, which is precisely the successful seed they planted throughout their organization in order to get ahead. Steve Jobs got it. (We all kind of know that his success was far from an easy ride.)
