Pros
Neiman's is a SERIOUSLY fast-paced and demanding employer. Personally, that worked for me! The discount is amazing, and the training for promotion is unbeatable. You are NOT treated like a child; you are expected to embrace your job and run with it like it's your own business. You get to work with a lot of the retail industry's best and brightest and you get to meet a lot of interesting and important people; clients and industry insiders alike. You work with the finest product available in the world. It feels great to work for a company with high standards in everything it does!
Cons
The pressure to perform is insane. They don't want any sort of excuses; even if the excuses are totally reasonable. For the first two years of the recession when most of our clients were losing their life savings and some of their businesses, they still expected very unreasonable increases in volume. Some of the buyers have their heads stuck in Dallas, TX. If you need different merchandise or have a different clientele, it takes a LOT of work to get them to listen to you. It is VERY hard to fire a sales associate at Neimans. If you hire someone who isn't working for your team, it can take 6 mos to a year or even longer to get them out and replaced. In that time, your whole dept. could be in trouble! The sales associates work pretty much solely on commission, so half of your time is spent babysitting and trying to diffuse spats.
