Great if You Love Working - Technical Consultant NeoSystems Corp. Employee Review

Pros

Fully remote for consultants unless a customer pays for travel for onsite work. Pays $50/month for cell phone, internet and gym expenses. Most team members are a joy to work with. Holiday parties have free booze.

Cons

Each consultant has a goal of being 80% billable over the year. To actually get that accomplished and do any amount of cross-training or continuing education would require overtime - which is great for Neo, not so great for a person's work-life balance. Many (or more realistically, most) people succumb to the pressure to work >40 on a regular basis. Even with that, sales aren't high enough throughout the year to keep consultants fed to 80%. Because of billable pressure, many projects suffer from a lack of prior documentation. Most problems have been solved before, but there is no consolidated store of the solutions that have been used previously. Taking the time for this initiative could make Neo $$$ on easy billable bids, but making money now seems to take priority. Employees taking the time to do documentation is also discouraged by the 80% goal that is consistently hammered into each consultant. Politics prevent a hefty amount of progress. Everyone is skittish about proposing changes to the owners. Changes to internal processes or systems take months, if they happen. The touted benefits seem like a distraction from the pretty terrible work-life balance.
