Changes at the CTO position and the subsequent leadership under the CTO has made Engineering and Operations a complete dumpster fire. The technology direction is fine, great even, but the methods of getting there are horrible.
- People are commodities and "everyone is replaceable" which has killed morale and nobody is enjoying the work anymore.
- Very little investment in what got the company to where it is. I was told "its amazing the company got to where it did under previous leadership" and "you all know you got to the size of company you did by complete accident".
- Expectations are constantly undefined and moving targets. I was told I needed to "get used to" never meeting expectations.
- The culture that the CTO embodies is that of corporate politics, bureaucracy and "make leadership look good" instead of inclusion, innovation and "make a great product" like it used to be.
If you're thinking of joining a position in the CTO organization, think twice. Other departments seem to have better senior leadership, but Engineering and Operations, not so much.
