Pros

I am a former public school employee for 17 yrs. and made the move to NCS this past August. It was the best decision I could have made for myself and my family professionally and emotionally. NCS does a great job of taking care of their employees! I started last August and immediately felt welcomed and appreciated. The children ,staff and their families are so giving and respectful. They also give more time off for yourself than traditional public school systems which teachers absolutely deserve and need! I cant express how happy I am here!

Cons

The only thing that I find challenging is being out of my K class subbing in other grade levels.

Pros

NCS is a small school with a strong sense of community. It's very easy to get to know your colleagues within the small staff. Administration is supportive of teachers and respects the need for work/life balance. After many years in the county school system, NCS has been a refreshing change. Administrators, including the Superintendent, are highly visible and approachable. They often visit classrooms to just check in or see if you need anything. Not simply because it's time for an observation. It is rare for teachers to be asked to stay after school for meetings or events. Meetings and trainings take place on regularly scheduled teacher workdays throughout the year. Teachers are not bombarded with unnecessary trainings that take time away from planning and instruction. Training and/or professional development opportunities are carefully selected and are directly related to the curriculum or student needs. I have found the parents to be very supportive and involved. Because NCS uses the NC teacher retirement system, I was able to seamlessly move my earned benefits from the county district to Neuse Charter. This has been the best move of my 25 year career, and I have absolutely no regrets.

Cons

Lower Academy is housed in modular buildings, but a permanent structure is in the works for the next few years.
