Pros
The students are some of the most motivated and intrinsically good humans I’ve ever worked for. Meeting with them made my job worthwhile. Pay was awesome too along with potential for performance incentives throughout the year.
Cons
Toxic work environment and long, grueling hours. Essentially, if one is looking for strong work/life balance, this is not the place. Because it’s a skeleton crew, the workload is tremendous. The job that would normally take a team of 3-4 school counselors was placed on my shoulders. That’s a similar theme for every other role too.
Although pay was good, it involved long hours, no winter/spring/summer breaks, and countless hours of looking at data.
Leadership doesn’t care to change or grow. Most hide in the central office and cowardly ignore parental concerns until it’s directly in their faces. Staff is expected to handle nearly everything on their own. Strong leaders reflect and try to better. I never felt comfortable or confident in the decision making that came out of the leadership team.
