Is this your company?

As an intern at NSA, I learned a lot about what NOT to do when working at a therapeutic boarding school. - Personal Growth Advisor New Summit Academy Employee Review

Pros

You get to live in Costa Rica and build relationships with interesting staff from all over the world and with the boys. The best part of the internship was working with the boys. They are wonderful and yes struggling but you have the chance to be a positive role model. It's a great way to give back to our youth.

Cons

HR is unprofessional and make anything you sign feel like a trap. Owners micro manage which make it hard to have stability in the work environment. There is zero training and the staff is plagued with unintentional (most of the time) sexist comments which make it frustrating when trying to role model for unstable young men. The school is not what the market as a "holistic" and "humanistic" approach to psychology. High turn over rate because of lack of stability and communication between departments which make it difficult and frustrating to work.

We are sorry that you had a poor experience in Costa Rican and at NSA. We actually do not have a high turnover rate at all as we have 33% of our staff working with us over 10 years, 33% for 5-10 years, 17% for 2-5 years, and 17% under 2 years. Those are pretty good statistics. We understand that an owner-operated model can be challenging in some ways and yet it is also what promotes trust in our program since there is a personal investment in providing the highest quality of care and risk management. That said, we will work on taking a step back and empowering experienced, ethical, resilient, creative, collaborative, well-trained staff to take the reigns.

We are grateful that you found your Costa Rica experience wonderful - it certainly is a reall cool and beautiful country with warm, welcoming, and accepting people. There is so much to explore and learn here! We are sorry you feel the school does not help its students. We do not have a position called "student worker," so I wonder if this is an actual employee review or perhaps a student who did not complete his time with the NSA program?
