Pros
It's small enough that you get to see the top level executives and founders, who tend to be friendly. Will pay competitively, but not generously.
Cons
I joined this company to be part of a new development team where I was promised the opportunity to develop exciting new products. After starting I quickly found out that this department is poorly organized, lacks leadership, and that the big picture has not been defined enough to keep a team of 5+ fully engaged. There is a definite sense of overhiring and at times team members try their best to "look busy". We are not developing new products, rather trying to replace an existing system on a Microsoft stack with one on Ruby on Rails. The long term direction of this project feels unclear. After the major executive who spearheaded this project abruptly resigned, our boss responded to the team's concerns with words of the effect "there is a lot of politics going on in the organization". It certainly didn't ease any concerns about our team's vision. NextGear is great if you like depressing work environments. The workplace is bland and the company offers few (if any) perks or performance incentives, financial or otherwise. Despite the pleas of the development team, management is determined to strongarm its employees by moving the entire team into a "pen-like" open office environment with no privacy. Another shocker came when a team member was fired without warning at the whim of a single manager. I would not recommend working for NextGear Capital.
