Thank you for sharing this and appreciate your feedback here. You're absolutely right that work-life balance challenges have existed in the company and are still present in parts. Interestingly, we closed our employee survey last week and saw that we've improved work-life balance YoY (2 out of 3 questions on work-life balance showed improvement of 9+ points each). Over the past year, we've launched the "recovery day" program, tripled the employee population, and in Q2 piloted the "no meeting" block on Wednesday, to name a few actions. We also have a large investment in management training going on now. I agree with the idea of doing more post-mortems on launches. I've personally sat in one recently and found it helpful and we have another planned for next week. I believe we very likely struggled with all of this during your tenure and it's clear we need to improve - in some areas, now, more than others. Thank you for your time at Niantic and best wishes on the next adventure! - D

Pros

Niantic has a unique mission and works on products that blend technology, gaming, community, and real-world exploration. The people are generally smart, passionate, and collaborative, and there are opportunities to work on creative projects with global impact. The company also offers a good learning environment for those interested in gaming, AR, live operations, and location-based products.

Cons

Priorities can shift frequently, which sometimes makes it difficult for teams to stay focused or understand how their work connects to the broader company strategy. Communication from leadership could be clearer, especially during periods of change. Some processes feel reactive rather than proactive, and cross-functional alignment can vary depending on the team.
