Pros

- The people are genuinely nice. - Easy entry point into the consulting industry. - Use Nous to get into the industry and then move on to better things ASAP.

Cons

- They pay significantly below market rate. - You will only work in three industries: government, higher education and health. - There is no structured career path - no one at Nous has gone from Consultant all the way through to Principal. - They love using buzzwords "Big Data", "Agile" and "Lean" to sell things but no-one has any real idea about them because no-one has actually ever worked with them. - The feedback process is opaque and you have no concrete idea how much your charge out rate (and pay) will move.

At Nous we want all our employees to have a positive experience and to enjoy their work environment and their work. So it saddens us to hear that not everyone has this experience. Being named 5th on the Great Places to Work list in 2015 suggests that the majority of our employees love working at Nous. At Nous we pay at a competitive market rate, commensurate with the size and positioning of our organisation. We adopt a total employment offer approach, of which salary is one component of the overall offer. We work across 10 sectors; which sectors you work in is influenced by expertise, interest and the practicalities of consulting! We can't always predict the projects we are engaged to support and the timing of those projects. Consulting is a very dynamic industry. We do have a structured career path and have a number of consultants who have progressed from consultant to Principal. As we continue to grow, we anticipate greater opportunities to provide the depth and breadth of expertise required for even more Nousers to develop from consultant to Principal. We also value highly the diversity of experience that is gained by working in other organisations, and we encourage our people to leave Nous to gain these experiences and then return to Nous, bringing new ideas and experiences. A number of Nousers have done just that. Most consultants love buzz words! We try not to be glib in our use of consulting speak, but like most firms, we are definitely talking big data and agile, as well as innovation and digital. These are the realities of the world we live in, and our clients are looking to us to help them to thrive in an ever changing world. We have experts in these areas, and we are also building the broad capability of all our staff in key areas, demonstrating our commitment to build capability and to learn and grow as people and consultants in this dynamic environment. We will continue to embrace new ideas and new directions. Our clients, who voted us Best Management Consulting Firm Australia 2015 in the Financial Review Client Choice awards, derive value from the work we do. Most people tell us our feedback culture is a differentiator. We provide ongoing, direct feedback, which is shared with employees. Feedback comes in the moment through day to day project work, and also through formal feedback gathering processes. No one knows in advance individual charge out and salary movements, they are a factor of performance and capability growth and reflect the value each Nouser can provide to clients. Recently we have communicated some guidelines around progression, to help manage expectations. Thank you for taking the time to review Nous, and apologies you didn't have the experience we hoped you would. Best of luck with your next adventure. I hope you find an organisation that gives you what you are looking for.

Always tough to read a harsh review. As the CPO I take responsibility for the vision, style and approach of the people team. I would hope that we are not stuck in the middle ages, but rather are open minded and progressive. I apologise if our approach to EDI is embarrassing as we pay attention to it and it is important to us. We get positive feedback from Nousers on our inclusive culture and the continued improvement around this important aspect of work and society, while recognising that we can always be better and that the world doesn't sit still so we must be open to ongoing improvement and change. We will keep working at it.
