      ORISE provides opportunities to gain experience working at federal agencies. The pay is equivalent to the federal pay scale, much better than a typical postdoc.

      Cons

      You are not actually an employee of your host agency/institute, it is an education opportunity. You have to file quarterly taxes because it is a fellowship, not a job.

      Poor communication and organization from management led to missed pay on multiple occasions. This falls more on ORISE mentors than on ORISE management itself. Liability concerns restricted research opportunities
