Pros

It's far from perfect, but if you're dropped on the right team, this can be a great place to work. The tech stack is legacy, but evolving. The product is a core requirement to many companies, giving stability to the company and those performing well inside it.

Cons

Management pushed an "accomplishment based reviews" system which just means you have to track everything you've done in a quarter and write that back to your manager for them write "+1" or feed into an LLM and get your token cost of living raise. The pay is not great if you are not constantly jockeying for raises/promotions. They've been pushing India and Canada hires hard, leaving teams with no managers, or no ICs to work on their FedRAMP infrastructure. They love building their own software - which is a con because FOSS and paid services accomplish the job way better, such as their self-built deployment and CI/CD systems, and costs dozens of engineers and SREs to run them.

Pros

+ Most team memebers are nice, except for a select few situated in the main Pacific Time zone + Other teams at okta are really good and helpful. Really good professionals IMHO + This team used to be Nice when the team was being lead by a former employee, it was later taken over by the manager who is quiet horrible at understanding and assigning tasks + learnt a lot about security, although all my learnings lasted only about the first 2 years.

Cons

- Un clear mandates from leadership which changes every other month - Manager is King, Literally a manager can make things up and they never get challenged. - Over assignment of projects with un achievable deadlines were common towards then end . - segregation wiithin the teams as only a hanful are allowed to make decisions . These Segregated memebers were rewarded by better project selections and tasks as the rest were givven remedial busy tasks - Finger Pointing culture when it comes to certain tasks - Manager gets aggressive where its not warranted, and does not respect boundries during Doctor visits. - Manager is explosively retaliatory and creates horrible toxic culture in private chats. - No acknolodgements for achievements as they were given , instead your work gets reported as accomplished by other team members. - No room to grow as Not even yearly evaluations are handled factually. - Manager is extremely forgetful, Positive ideas would be conveyed only for them to be overtuned in the next week 1 on 1 with zero recollection of the previous conversations. - Tensions got so bad a team member recently passed away
