Pros
During the hiring process, the HR representatives from Paris informed us that we would receive comprehensive training from Axxis Formation, which would include both theoretical and practical experience. They spoke favourably about Onet Airport Services, explaining that after completing six months on a trainee contract, we would receive a diploma as Airport Ground Handling Agents and subsequently be offered a full-time contract. The HR representatives also mentioned that clients such as EasyJet and EuroWings, who primarily communicate in English, are part of their portfolio, confirming that the position requires proficiency in the English language.
HR informed us that they would provide us with complete uniforms and equipment.
Cons
The actual experience differed significantly from what was initially presented during the hiring process. Trainees received only two weeks of theoretical instruction and did not have any practical training provided by Axxis Formation. Additionally, the contract we were asked to sign at the beginning of the training period could not be taken home for translation, which impeded our ability to fully understand its terms. Notably, the contract stated a duration of eight and a half months instead of the six months that had been communicated, and it did not clarify that the position required proficiency in English.
Not only was I deceived during the hiring process, but the most concerning issue was the dismal working conditions and the toxic culture that permeated the workplace. The staffing shortages were alarming, with few employees willing to remain due to unreasonably low salaries and the sky-high expectations set by an unrealistic CEO.
This environment led to a series of alarming and dangerous mistakes, such as leaving a key unattended on a gate door, which allowed an inebriated passenger to access the landing runway unsupervised. Furthermore, the lack of effective communication tools, such as walkie-talkies, and insufficient training on aviation abbreviations, acronyms, and essential communication skills with coworkers severely hampered our ability to function effectively as ground handling agents. This situation is not just unacceptable; it endangers both staff and passengers alike. It's imperative that serious changes are made to address these critical issues.
One of the most unacceptable issues was the absence of several chiefs, managers, and leaders to better organise the arrival of the newbies. Furthermore, in reality, they were completely unorganised. We had to wait four months to receive our full uniforms, and some items were missing, such as headscarves, dresses, and shirts. Additionally, the quality of the uniforms is very poor.
