Egotistical, toxic management. Organization does not live up to its values. Upper management simply don't care about employees as individuals. Directors are often the problem, but they are relatively safe, well compensated. Good luck if you're a Program Officer or Analyst, as you will have little to no autonomy, with almost zero chance to get promoted. Grantmaking standards are often a joke. You are more likely to get approved to receive a grant if you're friendly with the Director(s) over the efficacy and importance of your organization and its work.
