Pros
Free food and the perks of being in tech (nice equipment, free headphones and swag etc).
Cons
After over 4 years I made the decision to leave Osaro in 2023. While I’ve been hesitant to write this I believe it’s important for future employees to have a full picture of what to expect out of the culture and workplace. The company itself boasts its D&I efforts and inclusive hiring practices. However based off the very public opinions and statements of the executive leadership team I would not recommend working here if you’re LGBTQIA+ or from an underrepresented minority. Due to HR being composed of one person who works only 1 day a week, internal issues aren’t handled in a timely manner or communicated effectively with the team. When people are laid off or quit there is no communication from leadership. People are just gone. While this wasn’t the case when I first joined this became standard practice in my last year with the company after new leadership was brought it. This left many on the team wondering if something was wrong due to overall lack of communication and wondering if their jobs were also in jeopardy. In my 4 years with the company the review process was never consistent or the same two years in a row. There was never regular feedback or goal setting which causes lack of growth and personal development. There is also no form of feedback that goes to upper management or leadership. It’s only downward, and any feedback you might bring to your manager won’t be raised further than that singular discussion. There is little to no management training or development. Managers who have been promoted from within the company seem to have little experience running teams. Overall this is an example of a startup with a commendable mission, yet one that seems to have veered away from prioritizing and supporting the individuals behind the product.
