Great political city, worst workplace! - Project Manager P2 Consulting (IL) Employee Review

Pros

For the most part clients were pleasant. We had many opportunities to meet interesting and influential people in Chicago’s political scene. Attending the events was also fun for the most part. Co-workers were great. Location was nice/convenient in the loop downtown.

Cons

P2 employees were SEVERLY underpaid. Raises, IF they happened, were laughable and many times employees were expected to pay for work related expenses on their own dime (cabs, Ubers, gas etc.). It was common for some employees to be working 60-80 hours/week. Though working many hours throughout campaign season was not totally unexpected, I never felt like the amount was truly justified. Employees were paid on a salary basis so overtime did not exist. Unfortunately, bonuses did not either. If and when “performance reviews” occurred the feedback was usually negative and provided in a retaliatory fashion. Clients and their staffers were generally pleasant. Hanah (P2 President) was a different story. Though she was well known in the political community, she was incredibly difficult to work for. If at any point you felt uncomfortable or disrespected by a client, you were immediately made to feel like it was your fault you felt the way you did. Clients were never held accountable for their actions and employees were blamed completely if financial goals were not achieved. Hanah would often start vicious rumors throughout the office to turn employees against one another and make workers feel uncomfortable in the office. P2 always lacked rules (until it was convenient for the president to make one up). There was never an official policy on how many days off employees received per calendar year (including personal and sick days). Employees were required to request days off far in advance and if you called in sick, you were often guilt tripped and sometimes asked to come in anyways. Many employees often received unprofessional and nasty texts from Hanah at all of hours of the day/night. Often I found myself scared to check my e-mail every morning when I walked in the office, out of fear I would have received yet another unsettling nasty e-mail from the president. I 100% do not recommend working at this company.

Pros

located in the Chicago Loop

Cons

Hanah is a terrible boss and hires young women not to empower them, but to tear them down. She will convince her employees that they will never succeed without her in order to keep them around. You will be screamed at over the phone regularly and there is zero opportunity for growth. Wouldn’t wish this place upon my worst enemy.
