Pros
The care they provide animals is superb. The staff that do get hired on are amazing people and you will probably leave with many long-lasting friendships. I'm not surprised that the only positive reviews here are from either interns or volunteers as the staff that is there go out of there way to make it a positive experience for them. In fact, if you want to be involved with this organization, I highly recommend doing it on a volunteer basis. You'll get real, hands-on experience caring for animals and be treated way better than if you get hired on as staff. I
Cons
There is a major, high level management problem that has been in existence for years. At one time, many years ago, PAWS was severely in the red before being turned around into the successful animal welfare business it is today. However, it is still being run like it's severely in the red. The pay is absolutely abysmal. They refuse to adequately staff their departments which results severely overworked staff. Prepare to burn out after a short time. They make no investment in their employees to further their career and seem quite content to allow for an appalling turnover rate. In the short time I was there (2 years), there was almost 100% turnover in my department, with some positions being on a third person in that time. It's the most dysfunctional, chaotic and disorganized place I've ever worked.
