Good company, bad pay, questionable future - Engineer 2 POWER Engineers Employee Review

Pros

The culture and flexibility at POWER is great. The leaders on a local level are generally pretty relaxed. The WFH policy at POWER is great and the work/life balance is high here. Also, typically there are some pretty nice end-of-year bonuses. This is a great place if flexibility and culture are what you are looking for. POWER will help you grow as a professional and have many career opportunities.

Cons

The corporate leaders have DEI at the forefront of their minds. It is abundantly clear that this initiative is hurting companies all over the US and the world. We are a service-based industry and our quality of work is going to keep us on top and growing, not diversity quotas. Also, base pay here at POWER is pretty low. The only way to make the industry standard for pay is to work way more OT and count on the year-end bonus. Without OT and the bonus, the base pay here at POWER is below industry averages by a sizable margin. Also, POWER has not increased wages to combat the massive amount of inflation we have seen in the last 3.5 years.

POWER Engineers Response

Thanks so much for taking the time to give us your honest feedback. We're glad you generally enjoy working for POWER! While POWER does not have diversity quotas, we intentionally create a culture where all employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work. Our strength—and our ability to produce quality work for our clients—lies in our differences. Championing a diverse, engaged workforce is not only good business practice, it’s the right thing to do. We also hear your concern about pay. We want you to know that we've recently hired a compensation manager to evaluate this issue and ensure our team members are competitively compensated. We truly appreciate the time you took to share your experience, and thank you again for your honesty.

Pros

Was a genuinely great place to work. Great people and great culture. It was worth the slightly-lower-than-average pay because work life balance and benefits were great. I enjoyed going to work every day.

Cons

Poor financial decisions from upper management regarding the shareholder program led to the company's demise. Upper management sold out to WSP. Management made millions while long time employees got zilch. As someone else had mentioned, retention bonuses were unfairly distributed. Most people didn't get any retention bonus even if they had been long time employees of the company. It really felt like everyone who wasn't upper management got stabbed in the back. They got their payout then dumped the company. Still stings to this day.
