Pros
This is a small community hospital, therefore you get to know and see the staff in the hospital outside of your department, giving this place a family feel. Parking is free.
Cons
I came to this hospital as a new grad RN so I had nothing to compare to. The hospital had a union which I felt favored the senior RNs for the most part. Aside from a few units which I can count on one hand, the shifts are 8 hours which is so old school now. 12 hour shifts are the way to go if they want to decrease the RN turnover rate. RNs here I feel aren't very involved in their units (evidence based practice, nursing governance, etc), unit meetings are mostly staff complaining with no brainstorming for a resolution. They also claim their RNs get paid the highest in NJ, but now that I work in another hospital, DEFINITELY NOT. What I am making in a day shift at another hospital is more than what I made night shift (with differential!!) at PMC.
