Pros
Having worked at multiple tech companies, this is the most ethical one I've seen so far. We have multiple committees dedicated to ethics in AI, community outreach, and the environment. Employees have the ability to take volunteer days to give back to the community (for example going to local schools). Despite being a small startup, Papercup makes a substantial contribution to offsetting environmental impact of conference travel. Employees have the ability to speak up if any content we are helping to generate is questionable in any way. The company structure is very democratic. Everyone who works here has the company's best interests at heart, but also enjoys the job. So it's very rare that anyone is 'told what to do'. Especially on the ML team, we all have a say in what we're working on collectively. Also the people in general are so welcoming and diverse. We have employees from five different continents who speak many different languages (in addition to English). Everyone is friendly and genuinely enjoyable to be around, both in the office and at company socials. We have a parental leave policy instead of maternity or paternity leave, which means that all parents, regardless of gender, are treated equally. As a gay woman in tech, I've never been so impressed by a a company's team and structure.
Cons
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say for cons. I guess it's that I miss the office so much because of Covid?
