Pros
Despite my psychology degree, I had no experience working in the mental health field until this job. I fell in LOVE with working with this population, although it was not one that I had initially considered that I would enjoy working with. I like that I get to make my own schedule and do not typically have to work as a team with my coworkers. The consumers make this job worth it. Knowing that I am making a difference in the community and creating relationships with such resilient individuals. Seeing them make progress on their goals is really amazing. In addition, PDG has provided me with clinical field experience as well as clinical writing skills. If you don't like typing and recording everything, this is not the job for you!
Cons
Cliques/unwelcomingness amongst staff members or the perception of unwelcoming behavior due to everyone being on their laptops. Furthermore, there is competition among staff and a demanding workload especially when most of the staff are in grad school. Entering every minute of your time and tracking every mile of mileage gets tedious, but it has to be done.
