Pros

Pay is okay, but benefits are great and that makes up for pay a bit. Benefits are the main draw to PGW and some of the coworkers are really great people.

Cons

No work/life balance. they used to allow 2 days a week work from home but took that away for anyone not in the union, so you can only work one day from home a week (and honestly, they try to fight you on even doing that). If you are in the union you can still have 2 days a week from home, which makes no sense since everyone not in the union are admin positions like IT, Legal, HR, Finance, etc... Non-exempt salaried employees in management have to clock in and out every day just like hourly workers. You aren't eligible for overtime when you are salaried of course, though there is an expectation that sometimes you have to work a little more at that level and that's fine. But because you also have to clock in and out and your time is tracked to the minute you can never work any less, only more. You need to use limited time off for everything, even a quick appointment during the day or if there is a snow day and you can't make it in, but could work from home. You just have to use your PTO and not work at all to avoid getting into a car crash. You're not allowed to take unpaid time off so you can only have a few days off a year. Other than that you have to make sure you are sitting there in the office every day as that is the only metric they care about, even if you never do anything but independent work and zoom meetings. Even if you want to try to change something and make an impact, you can't because they only ever just want to do things the same way they did for the last 40 years. This is entirely because the executives at the top are completely out of touch and utterly uninterested in anything innovative or more efficient, they're just interested in keeping the status quo while they sit in their crazy fancy offices on the top floor and complain about how no one wants to give up all their waking hours to sit at a desk doing busy work (that just ends up being dropped or forgotten by them after a while on a whim) any more....

Pros

Easy work guaranteed 40 hours a week great benefits no lay offs pension 457 or 401k paid sick days holidays and vacation days

Cons

You get penalized for using sick days to easy to lose progressions in the summer time the higher up have less work so they micromanage everything you do new rules are constantly being added it’s not a real union the union works for Pgw so it’s a conflict of interest when it comes time for them to defend you the company always puts the blame on you if they can never find a conclusive answer to a problem
