Pros

I enjoyed the animals that I worked with

Cons

Management condones extreme bullying and tries to sweep it under the rug. They told me not to go to HR, which isn't exactly legal. I had to tell them that I was speaking to a lawyer to get the well documented harassment to stop. Even though I was at the highest possible zookeeping position before management, I made a lower salary than any other keeper job I've had in my career. Exhibits were falling apart, I had to use zipties and duct tape to fix things for my animals. Areas were completely infested with rats. No hot water in the keeper showers. Yet they had money to build a new building for the volunteers with fancy artwork and a panini press in their breakroom, that we weren't allowed to use. You're more likely to get fired for clocking in one minute late than you are for bullying someone to the point of a mental breakdown.
