Pros

Freedom to implement and integrate your own preferred processes. Work life balance is good. No overtime here. Friendly staff. Social opportunities aplenty. Opportunity to work with impactful organisations, not for profits and Government.

Cons

Career development and HR is very poorly managed. Pathways are dead ends. When things go wrong management tends to blame the little guy - the people on tools. Directors are not knowledgeable or experienced in their fields. Management values productivity and profitability, not quality or creativity. Projects run very poorly, due to lack of process and clients are angry. People don’t give or receive feedback well, across all areas of the business. Staff are treated as resources, not humans, and not experts.

Pros

The work Portable does is truly great - their projects truly do help people in need. And the employees are amazing; I made many great friends working there.

Cons

Unfortunately, the business is unbelievably mismanaged. There is no positive culture fostered by management, projects always run over budget and people end up resourced in completely unsustainable ways, and it is generally a miserable place to work. Management have never listened to anyone when they say there are major problems, and they still pretend everyone is happy and there is no culture problem when there clearly is. Remuneration is also very poor, at 20-30% below market rates. There are some perks and non financial benefits, but they definitely in no way make up for the massive pay discrepancy. If you work at Portable you can expect to make a real difference through the work you get to do, but at the expense of your own mental health, stress levels, and very low salaries. It's not worth it.
